Windows 7 Whopper
Jan 12th

How do you say “Oh My God” in Japanese? Burger Kings signature product – The Whopper - is getting a 7 day makeover in Japan. The Japanese fondness for beef is well known, and Burger King wants to indulge them with the “Windows 7 Whopper”. That’s 7 patties made of beef, filler, and perhaps some sort of chemical to kill bacteria, topped off with the usual Whopper ingredients. A meal guaranteed to backup your system and/or cause a serious crash due to overload. Remember, you can always resort to the “three finger salute” – Ctrl-Alt-Purge - if you need to! It’s not likely that Microsoft will support this version of Windows 7 due to the health risks and short shelf-life.
FDIC Insurance Premiums Put Squeeze on Small Banks
Jan 11th

The FDIC Insurance program must bolster it’s funds to cover further bank failures, and small banks are paying the price. The insurance fund, which covers depositors funds in case of bank failure, lost over $36 billion as it took control of over 140 failed banks in 2009. For my own small local bank, FDIC insurance premiums increased 359% over this time last year. At the end of the 3rd quarter 2009, they reported a 72.5% net income loss compared to the same period in 2008 — with the increase in FDIC insurance premiums being More >
Firefox 3.6 to Lockdown 3rd Party Add-ons
Jan 11th
Mozilla announced over the weekend significant changes to the coming version 3.6 web browser. In a move meant to keep the browser stable, 3rd party developers will not be able to add their own code to the Firefox components directory. That means a re-write for plugins – of which approximately 75% have already been converted. Version 3.6 is due “any day now” and will include Personas, which will allow easy appearance customization. You can download other Personas from Firefox.

Panic Attack – $300 Video Lands $30 Million Contract
Jan 11th
Fede Alvarez, a producer from Uruguay, uploaded a video to Youtube he reportedly made for $300 (I highly doubt this figure), and had Hollywood knocking down his door! His short film “Ataque de Panico!” (Panic Attack) -- about giant robots which attack Montevideo -- landed Alvarez a $30 million film deal with Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures. Raimi is known for producing the Spiderman blockbusters.
How to Speed up Windows
Jan 10th
Although this article is titled “How to Speed up Windows”, a more accurate description would be be “How to give your computer less to do”. Assuming there aren’t any serious hardware issues, computers generally get a bum rap for being slow. In reality, they are dutifully handling incredible amounts of work. More >

How to Regain Internet Access
Jan 2nd
Malware has always played dirty and is getting better at preventing you from removing them. Disabling your access to the Internet — while keeping access open for it’s own purposes — is becoming a common tactic. This move greatly hinders you from obtaining the tools that could help remove the infection. Very clever move! But we’re going to show ‘em who’s Boss! I’m going to give you some things to try that may restore your connection long enough to enable you to get the help you need. More >
Move Your Money
Jan 1st
If you are as disgusted as I with the taxpayer funded bailout of the “too big to fail” banks — who basically hoarded the funds for record profits instead of pumping it back into the communities — then make 2010 the year that you stand up and say “ENOUGH”. Send a powerful message to the banks — and Washington — by More >
